Chal Banjare dates the gate to 1727 and names Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II as its builder. That same publication says it served as a private passage for the Kachhwaha rulers, reserved for grand ceremonies, religious processions, and royal events, so this was never just a road gate: it was part of how power moved through the city.
