The story of Sri Radha Vinodi Lal Ji Mandir
Sri Radha Vinodi Lal Ji Mandir is a Gaudiya Vaishnava temple, and the name on the site points to the Radha-Vinoda deity tradition connected with Krishna worship. The strongest thing to notice here is not just the shrine itself, but the deity it houses: Britannica-style temple descriptions name Radha Vinoda as a deity personally served by Srila Lokanatha Goswami, and say this image was later kept in a proper temple built by his followers.
The wider history attached to that tradition is tied to the 1650’s, when Srila Vishwanatha Chakravarti Thakura took responsibility for serving the deities and had disciples build a suitable temple for Radha Vinoda. That same published description also links the deity’s movement to Jaipur after 1670 AD, when important Gaudiya deities were moved from Vrindavana during Aurangzeb’s attack on Vrindavana.

Local tradition suggests that the temple is named after the palm trees (Borassus flabellifer) that were once found in the area. It is believed that the temple dates back to the time of the establishment of Jaipur city (around 1727 CE) or possibly even earlier. The Shivalinga (aniconic representation of Shiva) enshrined in the temple is considered to be swayambhu (self-manifested).
Jaipur is also known as 'Chhoti Kashi' (Little Kashi) due to the presence of numerous ancient Shiva temples, of which this is a prominent one. The architecture of the temple reflects Rajasthani style with glimpses of the local culture.
