You’re standing in Sri Chamarajendra Park, better known as Cubbon Park, a large city park established in 1870. The most useful fact to hold onto is that this is a planned urban green space with walking paths, landscaped gardens and play areas, rather than a single monument.

South Tourism says the park now sprawls over 300 acres, and that it has more than 6000 trees, which is why it gets described as an oxygen center in the middle of Bengaluru’s busy centre. The same publication places the park among nearby sights such as Cubbon Park Museum, Attara Kacheri, Sheshadri Iyer Memorial Park, the Bangalore Aquarium, Central Public Library, Sri Vishweshwariah Industrial, Government Museum, Venkattapa Art Gallery and Technological Museum.

The park is open Tuesday through Sunday from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and closed on Monday. If you want a simple visit, those hours are the practical ones to remember.

South Tourism also notes that the park was first known as “Meade’s Park” and was renamed as Sri Chamarajnedra Park in 1927 to mark the silver jubilee of Sri Krishnaraja Woodeyar of the Mysore Woodeyar dynasty. Today the Bengaluru Urban district website is the official site for visitor information.
