The story of Dakshinmukhi Hanuman Temple
This shrine stands within Aminabad Hamza Bazaar, one of the oldest market centers in Lucknow. Around you is a place where traders and shops deal in wholesale and retail commerce, with clothes, Chikan embroidery work, spices, dry snacks, hosieries and wedding decorations all part of the market life. The bazaar is a cluster of houses and offices as well as shops, and it is often compared with Chandni Chowk in Delhi.
The temple is dedicated to Hanuman, a deity in Hinduism who is revered as a divine vanara and a devoted companion of Lord Rama. He is central to the Ramayana and is celebrated for his unwavering devotion to Rama. In Shaiva tradition, he is regarded as an incarnation of Shiva, while in most Vaishnava traditions he is the son and incarnation of Vayu. His theological significance and devoted following emerged roughly a millennium after the Ramayana was composed, during the second millennium CE.
Lucknow itself is the capital and administrative headquarters of the district and division, and it is an important centre of education, commerce, culture, tourism, music, and poetry. The city is part of the Uttar Pradesh Heritage Arc.
Stand here and look for the way the temple sits inside the market fabric, with one of the city’s oldest commercial districts all around it.
